Angel Food Network - why you should try it

Angel Food Ministries. I am not sure why more frugal families aren't participating in this program. Especially larger families can find tremendous benefits with this food relief program. You can get your food through this ministry for less than half the retail price!

Once a month you go in to your local Angel Food host and pay for your box(es) of food. About two weeks later the boxes arrive and you go pick them up. There is a menu so you are never surprised and, although there is only one main box, there are four speciality boxes to choose from with different meats, fruits, and veggies! You can find a menu on the website.

A lot of folks immediately think that Angel Food Ministries are only for low income families, similar to the food stamps program. This is not true.
There are no restrictions, conditions, no questions or forms to fill out to purchase food from Angel Food Ministries. This program is open to anybody and everybody. Anyone may purchase an unlimited number of boxes of food by placing an order with a local Angel Food host site. This is not a government program or a 'hand out', but a program developed to give Christian churches a way to get involved and serve in their communities. It is a way for the church to assist families (and singles, too) in the face of rising food prices.
By buying food from first rate suppliers at substantial volume discounts, Angel Food Ministries is able to provide families with approximately $65 worth of quality nutritious food for $30. Angel Food Ministries does not use out-of-date food or inferior products.

These food boxes are not handouts! Church volunteers work together to make the food available to the general public at deep discounts but they do not pay for the food boxes. The consumer pays for the food boxes - just at a fraction of the price of shopping at the grocery store!

My husband and I are discovering that we can actually cut our grocery bill in half by participating in the Angel Food Network program. Our family of eight is going from spending between 5 and 6 hundred a month for food to less than $300! Plus, with all the couponing I am starting I am hoping to get our grocery budget down to under $225 a month within the next 6 months. It's a big goal but I think we can get there. It is also an excellent way to help out needy families who can't even afford Angel Food prices. Purchasing a box for a family in crisis can make a big difference.

Although Angel Food Ministries have hundreds of hosts throughout the USA you may not find one in your area unless you live in the eastern half of the country. There are some in the Western half, just not as many. However, you can take steps to help a church in your community become a host site! What a blessing this could be for your community!
